Best Strength Training Bars Buying Guide

Before choosing the best strength training bar you should consider following options:

1. Standard or Olympic: Strength-training bars are either standard or Olympic. Standard bars are the ones with a diameter of 1 inch. Olympic bars, on the other hand, measure 1 inch in the middle and 2 inches on each end.

Which one to choose depends on the exercises you will be doing. If you are planning on doing Olympic lifts for which barbells are used, then get an Olympic bar.

2. Bar Length: Barbells come in different lengths. If you have limited space, you can get a short bar that measures between 48 to 52 inches.

If you have ample space, then you can opt for a long bar that measures from 7 feet to 8.5 feet.

3. Bar Finish: The bar finish determines how easy it will be for you to hold the bar.

You can get a bar with knurling that offers good grip. The smooth finish, on the other hand, is best if you are using gloves.

4. Bar Weight: Standard strength-training bars weigh 15 to 20 pounds.

Olympic bars, on the other hand, weigh 30 to 45 pounds depending on the diameter.
